The Federal Government of Nigeria have extended the deadline issued to all telecommunications operators in the country to block all Subscribers Identification Modules (SIMs) without National Identification Number (NIN).
All the Telecommunications network in Nigeria have already mapped USSD code for their subscribers, to easily link their
National Identity Number with their mobile phone number for verification by National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

What is National Identity Number?
A national identification number, national identity number, or national insurance number is used by the governments of many countries as a means of tracking their citizens, permanent residents, and temporary residents for the purposes of work, taxation, government benefits, health care, and other governmentally-related functions.
The number appears on identity documents issued by several countries.
The ways in which such a system is implemented vary among countries, but in most cases citizens are issued an identification number upon reaching legal age, or when they are born.
Non-citizens may be issued such numbers when they enter the country, or when granted a temporary or permanent residence permit.

- Dial *785*NIN# on your mobile phone.
- Like this: *785*4812640614# then SEND.
- Then when it is successful, you get a message like this:
- Yello! Your NIN has been successfully received. Kindly note that this is subjec to verification, as all NINs will be validated by NIMC. Thank you.
Federal Government National Identity Number NIN Link Extension
Kindly note that, the three (3) weeks extension is for subscribers with National Identity Number from 30th December, 2020 to 19th January, 2021.
While the six (6) weeks extension is for subscribers without NIN from 30th december, 2020 to 9th February, 2021.
